Artist Statement

My mind is always racing; planning out my every move down to the hour. In each and every piece I create, the viewer gains a sense of who I am as an artist, and as a person. The forms I create represent me on the outside. The different shapes and sizes show that I am continuously evolving and changing; while the detailed patterns represent the complexity of what is going on beneath the surface.

I predominantly work with clay because I am a tactile person and the mediums challenge me as an artist. A mistake made in clay is a lot harder to fix or come back from than with other art mediums. I choose to throw because the wheel gives me more control over the shape, form, and consistency of the piece.

The patterns I generate often consist of geometric shapes. I start the design by creating either a horizontal or vertical guideline. Like days, weeks, and months of the year are set in stone, so are my guidelines; they give me the foundation to start. The design and pattern that follows creates itself as I go; similar to the details that make up my days. I create these patterns with a free form process, not using templates. This shows that my pieces are handmade versus manufactured. While the forms I create are diverse in shape and size, they each become complex pieces of art through the markings I apply.
